Default Hard earned experience! What for??

Like a lot of people i got this main character that i play more with then my other characters. As a result its a LVL20 ranger with 15K armor, green bows,LVL 20 Pet. Thats all great but sometimes it feels like somethings missing. So like everyone probably noticed that even when u are LVL 20 u keep gathering experience, but to what point i wonder.
So i got this idea that it might be interresting to use the experience to upgrade your character but especialy your weapons and such!
I think i t would be cool to have a REAL customised weapon that u can rename to what u like and use that hard earned experience to upgrade it, making it your own semi unique weapon.
I worked out an example using draco's sundering flatbow:
There could be like 3 level of upgrade for the stats of the bow costing an amount of experience u earned:
Upgrading a stat to lvl1 will cost u 20000exp points,lvl2 will be like 30000exp,lvl3 will cost u an extra 50000exp point >> so upgrading a stat to a full level 3 will cost u like 100000exp points.
example:

Draco's Flatbow (20/20) --> can be renamed to what ever player wants

BasicLVL0 LVL1(20k) LVL2(30k) LVL3(50k)

dmg 15-28 -> 20-28 -> 25-28 -> 30-30

dmg+15^50 -> 20^50 -> 30^50 -> 40%(always)

AP 20/20* -> 30/30 -> 40/40 -> 50/50

hp+30 -> hp+40 -> hp+50 -> hp+60

Arch(high) -> medium(40k) -> low(60k) depending on bow this can be done or not (shortbows already have low arch)
-------------------------------------------------
total exp cost= 500K

*for the old 10/10 draco ap 10/10 -> 30/30 also at LVL1 upgrade

other stats:

vampiric5/-1 -> 7/-1 -> 10/-1 -> 10(no degen)

Zealous1/-1 -> 2/-1 -> 3/-1 -> 3(no degen)

cripple/bleeding/poison33% -> 44% -> 55% -> 66%

warding +7 -> +10 -> +13 -> +15

So now u would have your own totaly personal weapon, that u really worked for by earning experience.
To be able to customise or "personalise" the base weapon must be like a GREEN(unique) or GOLD(rare) weapon. And because it will be customised you cant sell it at absurd prices and start a trade in unique weapons!!! Also to be able to personalise the weapon u need to be ascended and LVL 20! This will counter powerlevelers and runners to keep it fair.

I was thinking on how you also could use your experience to upgrade your character atributes but ill maybe post that in another topic.

For now pls let me now what u guys think of this little idea???

It would unbalance everything and would force PvP players to grind experience to be competitive.

It's a good idea for some other MMORPG.

The examples you gave were obviously overpowered, but I still like the idea. I had thought of a kind of symbiotic weapon before that you could make stronger in chosen areas as you level, but I didn't end up putting much thought into it.
It'd also be cool if you could choose it's appearance, and maybe add stuff on to it's appearance as you level.

Oh man, I just thought of something. You could spend a certain amount of skill points to upgrade it in certain ways, or to add to/change it's appearance. I like that more than spending XP. That'd fix the problem with skill points being ridiculously easy to earn, and useless because of it.

It sounds good, but it just doesn't fit into Guild Wars.

I Don't see how it wouldn't fit. It could be a living weapon that comes from a quest. Maybe you could change it's weapon type at will while in town.
I Don't like it being capable of above-maximum stats, but if it were capable of being on par with a collector's weapon, that'd be great.

You need to make them non-PvP weapons. Then have you have to have it CUSTOMIZED for that player before they can enhance it... And I suggest upping it

Level 1 = 100,000 Experience
Level 2 = 250,000 Experience
Level 3 = 500,000 Experience

And you have to go in consecutive order, you can't just jump to level 3. The arc is added in with each level.

I like the idea but isn't XP meant to keep giving you more skill points? I'd rather pay a sound amount of cash than XP. This could reduce one's level too if not careful. I thought of upgrading mediciore weapons up to max. Say you find a perfect 20/20 sundering string on a crappy bow (it happened to me, salvaged and got wood ) you could do this:

1> Customize
2> Upgrade etc etc.

This can (and would) be used to power items which have a cool skin (but it wouldn't change the color of the weapon). Also, white stuff cannot be upgraded (and frankly I don't imagine anyone wanting to)

Pls bear in mind that in order to boost a weapon it has to be customized. And pls... no going beyond the max stats.

I agree that experience is pointless once you are level 20 with all the skills you want.

To make experience still be worthwhile, I think they should simply let you exchange experience points for gold.

And that would simply add more to fuel the gold sellers on eBay...

A way to make farmers even richer. More gold coming in would make the prices go higher, forcing people to grind for their gold if they'd actually want to buy something.

Umm... not signed for a few very obvious reasons... Racthoh too overpowered already...

No. GW should not reward grinde any more than it already does. It was and is still advertised as the minimal-grind game.

Why pay for monthly World of Grind when we can make Guild Wars a collectem-up game?

Farm, farm and then farm some more! then pwn n00bs with stupidly overpowered items!

yay!

Item wars for the win!

I can see trading xp or gold to improve a gold/purple weapon to max stats if you get a crappy item. But make it automatically customized. And only increases the inherent mod (15>50, 20%recharge, etc.) and damage to max. But changing the arrow arc? no, a flatbow with the flight time of a recurve is silly.
/signed for spending xp/large quantities of gold to get ur base gold/purple up to max. but not improving the upgrades on it, string, wrapping, etc.

I personally get enough satisfaction from looking at an eight digit number on my mesmer... sad part is most of it is not from farming (well unless you call doing FoW and UW for fun farming ).

Tx for the replies! There where some good points.
But still i think it would be interessting. As for the pvp part one could use faction or fame(reaching a sertain level of fame creates a upgrade token or so, that way u wont lose fame) to do the upgrading or so. And the stats in the example dont need to be that high it was just an example! But A better then normal weapon wouldnt upset the whole game(just take a look at the damage output of sertain bosses because of higher then normal atribute stats).
Its just that according to the story u are a ascended hero at one point. But nothing special happens then or nothing special u can do not even a new emote to take a heroic pose or so , lol. I mean in prophecies it wasnt anything special already but u had to do the desert quest and defeat ur döppelganger atleast! In Factions u can let a good party run u through the closer to the stars Mission and Wham! ur ascended!!!!Then u can even pay to change your secondary proffession!! FFS! U can buy everything almost!!!
I worked hard for my level and stuff! Let me please customise the weapon that helped me achive it all!! Its my best friend!!!!

other then the fact that this promotes grinding and your examples r way overpowered. If you are looking for somthing to do y not go after a few title like Kind Of A Big Deal?

/not-signed

p.s last i checked ascended ppl did get somthing special unless im mistaken UW/FoW anyone? and ToPk in the desert can only be reached by ascending in tyria maybe some kinda of area like that could be added for factions. Bosses r suppose to be harder other wise y would they be a boss and not just a normal mob.
